Two Persona 4 Actors Confirm They Won't Return for Unannounced Remake

by Charlotte Jun 14,2025

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding a *Persona 4* remake. However, recent developments have sparked fresh speculation—especially with three original English voice actors stating they won’t be returning for what fans are already calling the “Persona 4 remake.”

Earlier in the week, Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced Yosuke Hanamura, took to BlueSky to clarify that he would not be reprising his role—for what appears to be a project Atlus has yet to officially announce.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,” Lowenthal stated in a post since deleted. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

Shortly after, two more original cast members followed suit. Erin Fitzgerald, the original English voice of Chie Satonaka, confirmed she had not been contacted for the remake. Not long after, Amanda Winn Lee confirmed she would not be returning as Yukiko Amagi:

“Since, I've had several people ask me: No, I wasn't asked to voice Yukiko in the P4 remake”

These statements have only fueled ongoing rumors of an imminent announcement. Speculation about a potential *Persona 4* remake has been circulating for over a year, and recent domain activity linked to Atlus may suggest a reveal is near.

Assuming a remake is indeed in the works, it remains unclear why these beloved voice actors were not invited back. One theory points to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has affected many projects across the gaming industry. Alternatively, this could simply be standard practice for Atlus, which previously recast several roles for *Persona 3: Reload*, including Lowenthal’s character.

Yet some fans have floated a more imaginative idea—that this sequence of announcements is actually a clever marketing ploy. One user on Twitter/X noted the uncanny pattern: each actor announced their absence in the same order the characters join the party in *Persona 4*—Yosuke, then Chie, then Yukiko.

Some have even speculated that if Troy Baker or Matt Mercer (who both voiced Kanji Tatsumi in past releases) make similar claims next, it might serve as further “evidence” supporting the theory. While the idea sounds far-fetched, it's worth noting that *Persona 4* itself explores themes of identity and hidden truths—making such narrative trickery thematically fitting. One suggestion is that these actors’ original characters may appear as Shadow versions, allowing them to truthfully say they’re not returning as their classic roles.

Still, most fans remain skeptical of the conspiracy angle and believe the change is likely due to budgetary or logistical decisions by Atlus.

With so much buzz surrounding the possibility of a *Persona 4* remake, many hope for an official reveal soon—possibly at major upcoming events like Summer Game Fest or the Xbox showcase next week.
