Pizza Tower, Castlevania Dominus Arrive Along With New Switch Releases
Hello, fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024! Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, including several surprise game releases. This typically quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's excellent news for us! We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and the usual rundown of new and expiring sales. Let's dive in!
News
Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Bounty of Games
Nintendo's decision to combine two smaller showcases proved a smart move, resulting in a flurry of announcements. While I can't cover them all here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed in the New Releases section), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I highly recommend watching the video for a complete overview – even a quick skim will reveal plenty of appealing titles.
Select New Releases
Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)
A fantastic surprise from the Direct, this third Castlevania collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the notoriously poor arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside a far superior M2 remake. This collection boasts excellent emulation and a wealth of features, offering incredible value for its price.
Pizza Tower ($19.99)
This Wario Land-inspired platformer makes a speedy appearance as another Direct surprise release. Players must navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this irresistible, but even those without a particular fondness for Wario should consider it if they enjoy challenging platformers. We're aiming for a review, time permitting.
Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)
The surprise releases continue! On a Wednesday, these unexpected releases are a welcome sight. Goat Simulator 3 brings the chaotic goat antics we've come to expect. While I can't comment on the Switch performance, I know more powerful systems have experienced some hiccups. Proceed with caution, though even poor performance might enhance the game's inherent absurdity. Ultimately, it's a question of whether you're prepared for the potential chaos of silly goats wreaking havoc in an open world – your Switch might not be!
Peglin ($19.99)
While it's easy to criticize missed opportunities, I truly believe EA made a significant error by not bringing PopCap's games to the Switch. A collection would have been fantastic! However, we can still satisfy that Peggle craving with Peglin. Already available on mobile, it shines on the Switch. It cleverly blends Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A full review is coming soon.
Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)
Kairosoft cleverly injects new life into its familiar simulation formula by adding a beloved license. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story is a typical Kairosoft shop sim featuring characters from the popular Doraemon manga and anime. The license is well-integrated, and you might even spot characters from the manga artist's other works making cameo appearances as customers. A charming addition.
Pico Park 2 ($8.99)
More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can join in via local or online multiplayer, making this a game where more players truly enhance the experience. Solve a series of puzzle stages requiring teamwork and clever thinking. A great choice for those who enjoyed the first game, but it doesn't offer enough significant changes to draw in newcomers. And that's perfectly fine.
Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)
An affordable rhythm game featuring music from Kamitsubaki Studio. Hit the notes, follow the story, and enjoy the tunes. It might not be the most extravagant experience, but the price is certainly right.
SokoPenguin ($4.99)
A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels await – you know if this is for you or not.
Q2 Humanity ($6.80)
Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles are included. Players must utilize their character's abilities and drawing capabilities to solve the challenges. Up to four players can join in locally or online.
