Empoleon Added to Pokémon UNITE, More Water-Types to Follow

Pokémon UNITE is expanding its roster again, with Empoleon set to officially join the battle this September. And this water-type isn't coming alone—several other new Pokémon are following close behind! Get ready to see how aquatic attackers and a legendary boss will shake up the current meta.

When does Empoleon launch in Pokémon UNITE?

The All-Rounder arrives on September 19th. The character was initially revealed during the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, where its purple background—the in-game color code for All-Rounders—confirmed its role.

As an Emperor Pokémon, Empoleon comes with abilities like Torrent. Its stat spread mirrors its balanced performance in Scarlet and Violet, with slightly elevated Special Attack and Special Defense. Check out the official reveal trailer below.

Empoleon isn't the only new face coming to the arena

Dhelmise and Vaporeon are also confirmed for the roster, though their release dates remain under wraps. While full skill details are still to come, both are expected to introduce unique strategic options to matches.

Before Empoleon splashes down, another major update is on the way. Starting September 4th, the legendary Groudon will appear as a new neutral boss in Theia Sky Ruins.

Defeating Groudon grants a powerful attack boost and accelerates goal-scoring speed. If you defeat an opponent who's carrying Groudon's buff, that powerful effect instantly transfers to your team.

Also, don't forget that Pokémon UNITE's 4th-anniversary celebration is still ongoing. Latias is now available as a playable Pokémon, and you can earn its Unite License by completing anniversary missions. The event ends on September 4th, so be sure to download the game from the Google Play Store before time runs out.
