PS5 Update Enables DualSense Multi-Device Pairing

by Benjamin Jan 14,2026

The latest PS5 system update finally lets your DualSense controller pair with multiple devices without needing to repair it each time you switch.

Sony notes that since many gamers use their PS5 controllers across various devices like PCs, Macs, and tablets, enabling peripheral compatibility across platforms creates a more flexible and seamless experience. This means switching from your PS5 to Steam, for example, no longer requires constant pairing and unpairing.

The feature works by assigning each device to a different "slot." You can set a slot by holding the PS button along with one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square). This allows you to save up to four devices at once and switch between them using the PS button and the corresponding action button.

One to four indicator lights will show which slot and device you're connected to. Here's the breakdown from Sony:

Slot numberButton usedPlayer indicator lightsExample connected device
Slot 1PS button and Triangle buttonOne light onPS5
Slot 2PS button and Circle buttonTwo lights onPS5 Pro
Slot 3PS button and Cross buttonThree lights onWindows PC
Slot 4PS button and Square buttonFour lights oniPhone

The feature entered testing earlier this summer and will soon be available to everyone. To get the latest update, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.

The update also introduces a Power Saver option, accessible via Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver. Sony added, "Future updates for games like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will include support for the Power Saver option, with more titles to follow."
