Scalebound Revival Rumors Resurface with Kamiya

Scalebound, once a highly anticipated action title, blended intense combat, music, and a unique dragon companion interaction system. Positioned as a rare Xbox One exclusive, it sparked significant excitement but was canceled before release. Initially revealed in 2014, Microsoft officially stopped its development in 2017.

Recently, Clovers Inc’s official X account shared a video featuring Hideki Kamiya and team reviewing archived Scalebound gameplay. Kamiya reflected fondly on the project’s creation, expressing pride despite its cancellation. He later reposted the video, adding a bold message to Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s gaming chief: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!".

Kamiya’s words suggest a strong interest in reviving the project, echoing sentiments he shared in early 2022 about discussing its potential resumption with Microsoft.

Speculation about Scalebound’s return has surfaced periodically, with rumors peaking in early 2023. Despite hints of a possible reboot, Microsoft has remained silent on the matter.

In a recent Game Watch interview, Phil Spencer was questioned about Scalebound but only offered a smile, saying, "I have nothing to add at this time".

Even if Microsoft considers reviving the project, progress would likely be slow. Kamiya is currently focused on a new Okami title at Clovers Inc, meaning Scalebound’s development could only begin after his current commitments. Still, the enduring buzz around the game fuels hope that fans might one day see its release.
