Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Mobile Version Announced

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin’s new mobile and PC title, Hinuka Junreitan, has been officially announced. TOHO Games, Edelweiss, and G2 Studios unveiled Sakuna: Hinuka Junreitan today—a free-to-play spin-off coming to Android, iOS, and Steam.

After its initial teaser in November 2024, the game has now opened an official website and X (formerly Twitter) account. This signals the start of regular updates and announcements from the developers, with an expected release date reveal in the near future.

Sakuna’s signature rice farming and dynamic combat are coming to mobile

The original Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin launched in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. It masterfully blended platforming combat with detailed rice cultivation, offering a unique hybrid of farming simulation and action RPG.

Its compelling mix of folklore, combat, and farming quickly resonated with players, leading to an anime adaptation, a manga series, and the spin-off Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation. Note that Sakuna Chronicles remains in development as a separate project by Edelweiss and Marvelous.

Hinuka Junreitan will follow a mobile-optimized format, featuring item-based microtransactions and live service elements. The story will reimagine the Sakuna universe within an ongoing and expandable framework.

In the original game, players took on the role of Sakuna, an exiled harvest goddess who split her time between managing rice fields and using a mystical scarf to grapple foes and navigate platforms.

Character progression was directly tied to the quality of rice harvested. It’ll be exciting to see what new mechanics and enhancements the mobile version introduces.

Fans of the series can stay informed by visiting the newly launched official website and following the official X account for all the latest news.
