Silksong Playable at Australian Museum, Release Date Still Unknown

Hollow Knight: Silksong has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide, and the anticipation for its release continues to build. Exciting news for fans: a playable version of the game will be available at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). This version promises to be a significant step up from the "proof of concept" demo showcased at E3 in 2019.

ACMI's upcoming video games exhibition, Game Worlds, will run from September 18, 2025, to February 8, 2026. This event will not only feature Silksong but also other iconic titles like World of Warcraft and The Sims. Visitors can look forward to exclusive custom builds, along with original design materials, concept art, and iconic game objects.

In an interview with IGN, ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about including Silksong in the exhibit. They stated, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September."

Given the scarcity of information about Silksong since its 2019 announcement, the Game Worlds exhibit at ACMI is set to quench fans' thirst for details. The co-curators elaborated on what attendees can expect, saying, "From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design."

While the event at ACMI may hint at Silksong’s release window, no concrete release date has been announced. However, Silksong briefly appeared during the Switch 2 Direct, confirming a 2025 release window. With the exhibit extending into 2026, fans are hopeful that Silksong might launch during the event's run, perhaps as early as September.
