Sony Removes Resistance Games in PS Plus Revamp

by Hunter Jan 22,2026

Next month, PlayStation Plus members will see 22 games leave the service’s library. Notable departures include Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final accessible versions of first-party classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's online gaming subscription, offering monthly free games, timed trials, online multiplayer, and special discounts. Extra and Premium tier subscribers also gain access to a vast catalog of hundreds of current and legacy titles.

As reported by Push Square, the removal of 22 titles on May 20th includes two major first-party Sony PS3 games, both exiting the PS Plus Premium library.

This departure is significant because Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. Unless players own physical copies and a functioning PS3, the PS Plus Premium streaming service is the last way to experience them. Both games are being pulled less than a year after joining the catalog in late 2024.

The Resistance franchise is an alternate-history first-person shooter series developed by Insomniac Games after their work on Ratchet & Clank. Three mainline Resistance games launched on PS3 before the studio shifted focus to projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet & Clank titles.

While it's rare for Sony to remove its own first-party games from the service, it has happened before. A notable example is the sudden removal of both Horizon gamesHorizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, those titles remained purchasable after their removal. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become completely unavailable on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will stay on the service. It's also worth noting that the more recent first-party PS4 title, inFAMOUS: Second Son, is also part of this departure.

The Resistance series has been dormant for years. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president, Ted Price, mentioned there was serious consideration given to developing Resistance 4, but the project never received final approval. Like Guerrilla Games' Killzone series, Resistance has seemingly been set aside.
