Sony Reveals Mixed Updates on PS5 Themes
Sony has recently provided an update on the beloved classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes for the PS5, along with news about the potential for more themes in the future. In a tweet, Sony announced that these nostalgic themes will no longer be available after January 31, 2025. However, fans can take heart in the fact that Sony plans to reintroduce these themes in the coming months, responding to the overwhelmingly positive feedback they've received.
“Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow,” Sony stated. “Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.”

While the return of these themes is exciting news, Sony also shared some disappointing information in a follow-up tweet. The company confirmed that there are no plans to develop additional themes for the PS5 in the future. Sony's statement read, “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
This announcement has led to a wave of disappointment among fans, who have been hoping for the return of customizable themes, a feature that was popular in previous PlayStation consoles. Despite the PS5's capabilities, Sony has not yet introduced this feature, and it seems it won't be coming in this console generation.
The nostalgia themes were introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3, 2024. They allowed PS5 users to personalize their home screen and menus with designs inspired by the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The PSOne theme features the iconic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme incorporates its distinctive menu shapes, the PS3 theme includes its wave background, and the PS4 theme showcases similar wave patterns. Each theme also includes the unique sound effects of the respective consoles, adding an extra layer of nostalgia for users.
