Steam FPS Game Hiatus as Developer Faces Jail Term

The Steam FPS game, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, brings development to a complete standstill.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, praised for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay, despite being in early access. However, all updates are now on hold until Dizzie's release. While the game's future is uncertain, its "Very Positive" Steam rating suggests a dedicated fanbase eager for its completion.

Dizzie announced the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update, stating the crime predates Fortune's Run's development and occurred during a period of their life characterized by violent behavior. Although the specific crime remains undisclosed, this situation highlights the unusual impact criminal charges can have on game development. The original team member departed the project following a medical complication and subsequent loss of interest in game development, leaving Dizzie as the sole developer.

Development will be paused until at least February 2025, when Dizzie's sentence begins. The game's projected 2026 early access exit is highly unlikely to be met. While lengthy early access periods are common for indie games (as evidenced by Satisfactory's five-year journey), this three-year delay presents a significant challenge.
