Joseph Kosinski, the acclaimed director behind Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly set to helm a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script will be penned by Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy, who is building on an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy has recently been involved in writing multiple episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, which was created by his brother, Tony Gilroy.

Miami Vice, the iconic NBC police series, was created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann. It aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989 and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as the stylish Miami detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. The show is celebrated for its groundbreaking style, which redefined the aesthetics and sound of television series.

The series was previously adapted into a film in 2006, directed by Michael Mann and featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the lead roles.

While details about the new *Miami Vice* film are sparse at this point, it's clear that it won't be Kosinski's immediate next project following the release of his upcoming film *F1* in June.
