How Starbrand Works in Marvel Snap

Starbrand is a 3-cost, 10-power card with an ability that reads: “Ongoing: Your opponent has +3 Power at each other location.” This effect is unique as it impacts all locations except the one Starbrand is played in, unlike cards like Mister Fantastic which only affect adjacent locations. As an Ongoing card, Starbrand decks often incorporate cards like Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress to mitigate his drawback.

Starbrand is particularly vulnerable to Shang-Chi, but synergizes well with Surtur. However, at the 3-cost slot, fitting him into many decks can be challenging as players might prefer Surtur or Sauron.

Best Day One Starbrand Decks in Marvel Snap

Starbrand fits well into two established deck archetypes: Shuri Sauron and Surtur. Although the Shuri Sauron deck has been less popular recently, let's see if Starbrand can bring it back into the meta:

This deck is budget-friendly with Ares as the only Series 5 card, which can be replaced by Vision. Utilizing Zabu's ability, the deck plays differently from the traditional version with Ebony Maw. The strategy involves removing negative effects from Ongoing cards using Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress, then buffing another lane with Shuri into a card like Red Skull, and finally copying that power with Taskmaster. Starbrand's drawback is less significant in this deck, especially when countered by Enchantress.

This deck is more costly with four Series 5 cards, but the synergy between Sam Wilson and Cull Obsidian, along with Surtur and Ares, makes it powerful. Starbrand enables playing Skaar at a reduced cost by setting up with Ares, Attuma, and Crossbones. Zero helps mitigate the downsides of both Starbrand and Attuma. Timing Starbrand's play correctly, ideally after Surtur and alongside Zero and Skaar, is key to mastering this deck.

Should You Use Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens on Starbrand?

Starbrand is a "wait and see" card due to recent meta shifts with additions like Agamotto and Eson. It's uncertain if Shuri Sauron can reclaim its place, even with Starbrand's power, and Surtur decks may struggle post-nerfs to Aero and Skaar. It's advisable to monitor the meta for a few days before deciding to invest in Starbrand.
