Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor within the game.

Upgrade Locations: Workbenches

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require various materials depending on the item type and quality. Most materials are readily available through exploration or crafting. However, advancing a weapon's quality level requires increasingly rare Adra.

Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. After interacting with a Waystone, select the option to set up camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and are fast-travel enabled.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Avowed uses a dual system for gear power: Quality and additional upgrade tiers.

• Quality: This is the primary level indicator, represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. Gear quality should match or exceed enemy levels for optimal performance. Lower quality gear will be less effective against higher-level enemies.

• Additional Upgrades: Within each Quality level (+0 to +3), further upgrades are possible. These offer smaller stat boosts but are necessary before advancing to the next Quality level.

Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear

Avowed categorizes gear into standard and unique items.

• Standard Gear: Common loot or merchant purchases, upgradable to Superb quality.

• Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests or boss drops, upgradable to Legendary quality and possessing unique bonuses.

Prioritize upgrading Unique gear; standard gear serves as temporary replacements and should be sold or salvaged for resources.
