World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a festive in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's celebration includes new items, obtainable through various means such as random drops or in-game activities.

A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, unveils the rich history behind the holiday. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also humorously touches upon the commercialization of Winter Veil by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures, drawing parallels to real-world Christmas traditions.

Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures

No Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning the infamous Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unlucky reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration of the game. The video concludes with a fittingly amusing thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Chris Metzen's voice acting).

Blizzard's Content Creator Partnerships

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Past projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, as well as content for modern WoW, including the Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Hunters can tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, while all players can acquire new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet.
