Localthunk, developer of the popular roguelike poker game Balatro, intervened in a dispute on the game's subreddit regarding a moderator's stance on AI-generated art. The former moderator, DrTankHead (also moderating a NSFW Balatro subreddit), initially stated that AI art would be permitted if properly attributed and tagged, claiming this decision was made after consulting with Playstack, the publisher.

However, Localthunk contradicted this on Bluesky, clarifying that neither they nor Playstack endorsed AI-generated imagery. Localthunk subsequently issued a statement on the subreddit, removing DrTankHead from the moderation team and prohibiting AI-generated images. They pledged to update the subreddit's rules and FAQ to reflect this policy change.

Playstack's communications director acknowledged that the previous rules regarding AI content lacked clarity, suggesting a misinterpretation of the "no unlabeled AI content" rule. The remaining moderators are revising the subreddit's guidelines for improved understanding.
