Battlefield 2042 Free Pass Opens Road to Next Game

by Alexander Apr 07,2026

From today, August 18, through to the launch of Battlefield 6 on October 7, EA has scheduled a major content rollout for Battlefield 2042. This includes a free new pass that honors the series' legacy, fresh hardware, and a redesigned version of the beloved Iwo Jima map.

Advancing through the 'Road to Battlefield 6' pass unlocks 50 exclusive cross-game rewards. Twenty of these are specifically for Battlefield 6 and will be available immediately on launch day.

The new hardware features the KFS2000 on the free pass, the LYNX sniper rifle for those who joined the Battlefield 6 open beta, and the reintroduction of two attack jets: the A-10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot.

Today also brought a new leak indicating that at least two upcoming, unreleased maps will be larger than any seen in the game so far.

DICE recently adjusted the Rush mode following player feedback, but overall, the Battlefield 6 open beta has been well-received, achieving high concurrent player counts on Steam. This points to a potentially massive launch for the game in October.

Our early impressions are very positive, as noted in our ongoing review: "We're still in the beta, but I'm thoroughly enjoying Battlefield 6's multiplayer. The action is exceptional, with a cinematic feel amplified by the constant showers of debris. Using this environmental destruction strategically is not just visually impressive but genuinely effective.

"Even in its beta state, Battlefield 6 could be the most enjoyable shooter I've played this year."
