Metro 2033 Redux Is Free Until April 16

In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Metro is offering Metro 2033 Redux for free for the next 48 hours. 4A Games made the announcement on Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14, stating that the game is available at no cost on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.

This move aims to introduce new players to the franchise's origins. Additionally, 4A Games shared more about the anniversary celebrations in a blog post on their official website on March 16. The developers plan to host events, offer deals, and share celebratory content across Metro’s social media channels to thank their dedicated fanbase for their continued support.

The post highlighted, "Throughout this year, there will be events, deals and celebratory content on the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players for coming on the journey so far with us."

4A Games, founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanded to Malta, draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s science fiction novel Metro 2033 and its sequels. Despite the ongoing challenges in Ukraine, 4A Games remains committed to addressing themes related to the conflict. They shared, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The Next Metro

4A Games is actively developing two triple-A projects: the next Metro game and a new IP. While details about the new IP remain under wraps, the developers have provided some insight into the next Metro installment.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has significantly influenced the development process and the narrative direction of the next Metro game. According to the studio's update, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."

Despite these challenges, 4A Games remains dedicated to crafting impactful and reality-inspired stories. They are committed to overcoming the obstacles and delivering a high-quality game that further explores the poignant themes of the Metro series.
