Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are picture logic puzzles that challenge you to color or leave blank cells in a grid according to numbers at the side, revealing a hidden image. These numbers represent discrete tomography, indicating the number of unbroken lines of filled squares in any row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" signifies sets of four, eight, and three filled squares in that sequence, with at least one blank square separating each group.

To master these puzzles, you must determine which cells should be filled (boxes) and which should remain empty (spaces). Identifying spaces is just as crucial as filling boxes, as they help guide where a clue can extend. Typically, solvers mark cells they know to be spaces with a dot or a cross. Importantly, never guess; only fill cells based on logical deduction. A single incorrect guess can corrupt the entire puzzle, making it unsolvable.
