Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era

Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, taking place after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, writer of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

The story unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, immediately following the pivotal Battle of Jakku. The New Republic aims to solidify its position as the galaxy's governing power, but the transition is far from smooth. Luke and his allies face fresh challenges from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will introduce fresh galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with the unexpected." He added that the series will be action-packed, brimming with character moments, and designed for easy accessibility for new readers.

Noto shared his excitement, stating, "Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life. It's been particularly exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create their new looks while drawing inspiration from the actors' 80s appearances to maintain the feel of the timeline."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.

This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February will see the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
