Dungeons and Dragons has officially unveiled the contents of the eagerly anticipated 2024 Monster Manual, set to be the final core rulebook in the 2024 revamp of the beloved tabletop game. Scheduled for release on February 18, this manual will be accessible to D&D Beyond subscribers as early as February 4.
As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of 5th Edition, Dungeons and Dragons embarked on an ambitious project initially known as One D&D. This initiative kicked off with the release of the new Player's Handbook on September 17, followed by the Dungeon Master's Guide on November 12. Now, with the impending launch of the Monster Manual, the trilogy of core rulebooks is complete.
The 2024 Monster Manual boasts over 500 stat blocks, meticulously streamlined for user convenience. Among these, you'll find 85 brand-new creatures, 40 humanoid NPCs, and variations of iconic monsters such as the primeval owlbear, the vampire umbral lord, and their nightbringer minions. High-level creatures have received a significant boost, featuring streamlined attacks, revamped Legendary Actions, and formidable bosses like the CR 21 arch-hag and the CR 22 elemental cataclysm.
Dungeons and Dragons 2024 Monster Manual Contents

- 85 new creatures
- 40 humanoid NPCs
- High-level monsters like the elemental cataclysm or arch-hag
- Variant monsters like the primeval owlbear, vampire nightbringer, and vampire umbral lord
- Rebalanced, easier-to-use stat blocks featuring habitat, treasure, and gear

In addition to the stat blocks, the 2024 Monster Manual equips players with tools to enhance their gaming experience. Each monster entry now includes habitat information and potential treasure, enriching the narrative and strategic elements of encounters. Furthermore, the gear used by certain monsters is detailed, allowing players to loot and upgrade their equipment. The manual also features tables organizing monsters by habitat, creature type, and Challenge Rating, streamlining the process of creating encounters.
To assist Dungeon Masters, the book includes new sections titled "How to Use a Monster" and "Running a Monster." These sections demystify stat blocks and provide practical tips on how monsters behave in combat, making the manual accessible to DMs of all skill levels.
However, the book does not include detailed instructions on creating custom creatures. While the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide offered tables for crafting homebrewed monsters, its 2024 counterpart omits this feature. Fans eager for this information won't have to wait long, as Hero and Master Tier D&D Beyond subscribers can access the digital version of the Monster Manual on February 11 and 4, respectively, revealing the full contents ahead of the general release.
