"Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 Release Date Revealed with 12 New Subclasses"
Larian Studios has officially announced that the much-anticipated Patch 8 for *Baldur's Gate 3* will be released on Tuesday, April 15. After being available in a stress test form for some time, the update is now ready for all players to enjoy next week.
Patch 8 brings an array of exciting new content to the record-breaking Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Among the highlights are 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play capabilities, and split-screen support for Xbox Series S. For a detailed look at all the changes, check out the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 patch notes.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 new subclasses: ---------------------------------------Bard - College of Glamour
As a College of Glamour Bard, you’ll harness the power to heal allies and manipulate enemies. Use Mantle of Inspiration to grant your allies 5 temporary hit points, and if an enemy attacks during this time, they’ll be Charmed. With Mantle of Majesty, you can command these Charmed foes to flee, approach, freeze, drop to the ground, or disarm.
Barbarian - Path of Giants
Choose the Path of Giants and embrace your newfound giant strength, which lets you hurl friends and foes alike with ease. The Giant’s Rage passive not only boosts your size and strength but also enhances your Throw attacks and increases your carry capacity.
Cleric - Death Domain
As a Death Domain Cleric, you’ll master necrotic spells and three new necromancy cantrips, including Toll The Dead, which deals 1-8 damage, scaling up if the target is already injured. You can also explode nearby corpses to damage enemies, adding a thrilling new tactical element.
Druid - Circle of Stars
Circle of Stars Druids draw power from the stars, beyond the traditional wildshapes. Choose from three Starry Forms: the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon, each tailored to different strategies. The Archer deals radiant damage with astral arrows, the Chalice restores hitpoints, and the Dragon enhances constitution rolls, making you a versatile healer, fighter, or strategist.
Paladin - Oath of the Crown
Sworn to uphold the law, as an Oath of the Crown Paladin, you'll gain abilities like Righteous Clarity to guide your allies, Divine Allegiance to absorb damage and restore health, and the power to disrupt foes with strategic taunts.
Fighter - Arcane Archer
The Arcane Archer combines magic with marksmanship, featuring unique skills and new shooting animations. Banish enemies to the Feywild or unleash Psychic damage, potentially blinding them with a failed Wisdom saving throw.
Monk - Drunken Master
As a Drunken Master Monk, you can drink from your inventory or bottles found around the Sword Coast to recover Ki. Use Intoxicating Strike to boost your Armour Class and hit chance against drunk enemies, and Sobering Realisation to deal physical and Psychic damage, sobering them up.
Ranger - Swarmkeeper
The Swarmkeeper Ranger commands three deadly swarms in combat: Cloud of Jellyfish for lightning damage, Flurry of Moths for Psychic damage and potential blindness, and Legion of Bees for piercing damage and knockback. Each swarm also offers teleportation capabilities.
Rogue - Swashbuckler
Swashbuckler Rogues master new actions for a piratical flair, such as blinding enemies with sand, disarming them with a flick of your weapon, and using Fancy Footwork to prevent opportunity attacks after melee attacks.
Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
Shadow Magic Sorcerers thrive in darkness with Superior Darkvision and the ability to Shadow Walk between dim light or darkness. Summon the Hound of Ill Omen to harass foes and use Strength of the Grave to avoid being downed, perfect for Honour Mode.
Warlock - Hexblade
Hexblade Warlocks form pacts with Shadowfell entities, wielding magical weapons. Curse enemies and raise their spirits as summons that deal necrotic damage and heal you by stealing their souls, applicable to most enemies.
Wizard - Bladesinging
Bladesinging Wizards blend swordplay with spellcasting, featuring new animations and the Bladesong ability for enhanced speed, agility, and focus, plus a bonus to Constitution saving throws.

Patch 8 marks the final major update for *Baldur's Gate 3*, capping off an incredible journey for Larian Studios. The game, which launched to critical acclaim and commercial success in 2023, has continued to perform strongly into 2025. Surprisingly, Larian has announced plans to move away from *Baldur's Gate 3* and Dungeons & Dragons to focus on a new, undisclosed project, prompting a media blackout.
Meanwhile, D&D owner Hasbro has hinted at future plans for the series. During the Game Developers Conference, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, Dan Ayoub, mentioned that with Larian moving on, there is significant interest in *Baldur's Gate*. Ayoub expressed a desire for a *Baldur's Gate 4* but acknowledged that its development would be a long-term project. Hasbro is taking a measured approach and will soon share more about their plans.
To celebrate the release of Patch 8, Larian will host a Twitch livestream featuring senior systems designer Ross Stephens, who will walk through the new changes and additions.
