US Blocks Marvel Snap Amid TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind the popular game Marvel Snap, faced a significant setback when their title was banned alongside other ByteDance-owned apps like CapCut and Lemon8. The unexpected ban led to the discontinuation of Marvel Snap on iOS and Android platforms as of January 18, 2025. This abrupt move left many players frustrated, particularly due to ongoing authorization issues. However, those with access to PC versions can still find the game on Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise and are actively working to bring the game back online. In an official statement from Platform X, they reassured the community, stating, "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."

One of the most aggravating aspects of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to invest in in-game purchases without realizing the impending lockout. The impact was not limited to Marvel Snap; other ByteDance apps also faced restrictions, though not all were affected. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced a new card, Moonstone, which has the potential to shake up the game's meta. As an ongoing card with a 4/6 stat line, Moonstone can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. This addition is particularly significant given the existing pool of low-cost Ongoing cards such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which typically boost power. Moonstone stands out as she can harness these effects without additional cost, potentially leading to powerful strategic plays.
