"Carey Mulligan Joins Cast of Barbie Director's Narnia Reboot"

The upcoming reboot of Narnia, penned and directed by Greta Gerwig, who recently helmed the successful Barbie movie, has added acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan to its cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a stellar lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep.

Gerwig, who will again take on the dual role of writer and director, is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The new film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the iconic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Carey Mulligan, known for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig is slated to play the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will take on the role of a younger version of Narnia's notorious villain, the White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the character of Aslan, the revered talking lion central to the Narnia universe.

This isn't the first time the magical world of Narnia has been brought to the big screen. A previous trilogy, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the first three books of the series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.

Following the unexpected success of her 2023 film Barbie, which garnered eight Academy Award nominations and won for Best Original Song, Gerwig's adaptation of The Magician's Nephew marks her next major venture. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled for release in 2026.
