"COD Black Ops 7 Developer Leaks Private Playtest Details on Public App"
Details of a developer-only Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 playtest have unintentionally been made visible to the public via the Call of Duty app. Among the exposed information were unannounced multiplayer modes, including a surprising 20v20 wingsuit variant. Oops.
"An internal, developer-only Black Ops 7 playtest was set to begin this weekend," confirmed CharlieIntel on X/Twitter. "[Activision or developers Treyarch/Raven Software] accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox via the Call of Duty app, instead."
CharlieIntel also shared screenshots revealing previously undisclosed details about upcoming multiplayer modes, specifically Skirmish and Overload.
Skirmish is described as follows: "Two teams of 20 players engage in objective-based combat across a large map. Capture key points, destroy payloads, and transmit critical data to gain points. Utilize your wingsuit for flanking maneuvers and reach objectives ahead of the enemy. The first team to hit the score limit wins."Another revealed mode is Overload, which reads: "Two teams of six players compete to control a neutral EMP device that must be transported to the enemy HQ for scoring. Reach the score threshold and secure victory by successfully delivering multiple EMP units."
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – A Back-to-Back Experience
Developed collaboratively by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — officially unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 earlier this month — marks the franchise’s first-ever consecutive release within the Black Ops sub-series.
Matt Cox, General Manager of the Call of Duty franchise, emphasized that “as a team, our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise.”
The game features an ensemble cast including Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia portrays David Mason, Shipka introduces a brand-new character, Emma Kagen, while Rooker returns to reprise his iconic role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.
Recent Controversies and Pricing Shifts
Earlier this month, Activision quietly removed controversial in-game advertisements that had appeared in loadouts for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The company stated they were an unintended “feature test” published “in error.” It's notable that Black Ops 6 is a premium $70 title, and with Microsoft announcing a new price point of $79.99 for first-party titles around the holiday season, it's expected that Black Ops 7 will follow suit and retail at $80.
In lighter news, fans can now enjoy the chaotic presence of Beavis and Butt-Head in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, adding a comedic twist to the intense gameplay.
