Rentable Servers Ready for Launch Day

Funcom has confirmed that rentable private servers will be available when Dune: Awakening launches. Their recent Steam post on June 2 detailed the server functionality and rental process.

After months of speculation among players, the developers initially suggested private servers might come post-launch. During February 2025's Q&A Roundtable, Game Director Joel Bylos indicated the feature might not be ready for launch.

However, development progressed faster than anticipated, leading to confirmation of launch availability. The private server system offers unique connectivity - while players control their own Hagga Basin instance, they'll remain connected to shared social hubs and the dangerous Deep Desert area.

Each private server exists within a larger World grouping, allowing interactions between different private server communities. "You'll maintain access to Dune: Awakening's full multiplayer experience while controlling your own server," explained Funcom.

The developers outlined initial configuration options including PvP zone designation, taxation systems, and sandstorm toggling. While admin controls and character transfers won't be available immediately, additional settings may be offered through third-party providers GPORTAL, Nitrado, and xREALM.

Maintaining the Core Experience

Funcom emphasized their commitment to preserving the game's social nature: "Our solution maintains neighborhood-style communities in Hagga Basin while enabling massive multiplayer interactions elsewhere." This hybrid approach blends survival game mechanics with MMO-scale social interactions.

"Compromising the multiplayer experience wasn't an option," the studio stated, explaining their design philosophy. While offering fewer customization options than traditional MMO private servers, this system ensures all players can participate in the game's most ambitious social features.

Dune: Awakening launches June 10, 2025 for PC, with console versions coming later. Players can rent servers through authorized providers, with pricing determined by each partner.
