Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Slays Sales Record

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence of Interest in the Classic Action Title

Following its release late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly achieved significant sales success, exceeding 200,000 units sold. This achievement marks a strong comeback for the action game, despite initial launch challenges including technical issues and some controversy surrounding content changes. The impressive sales figures demonstrate a clear and substantial demand for the title.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant, over-the-top action hack-and-slash game. Players assume the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling hordes of zombies. While the remaster was handled by Dragami Games, incorporating quality-of-life improvements and a visual refresh, the core gameplay retains the original's signature style.

This sales milestone, announced by Dragami Games via a recent tweet, encompasses sales across all platforms—current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. The achievement comes several months after the remaster's September 2024 launch.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Triumph: A Celebration of Sales Success

The game's narrative centers on Juliet Starling, a San Romero High School cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun by the undead. Players engage in exhilarating hack-and-slash combat, utilizing Juliet's chainsaw against waves of zombies and formidable bosses. The combat mechanics draw comparisons to titles like Bayonetta.

While the RePOP remaster has achieved notable success, the original Lollipop Chainsaw (released in 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) enjoyed even greater popularity, selling over one million copies. A key factor in the game's initial appeal was the unique collaboration between renowned game designer Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director), who contributed to the game's narrative.

Currently, there's no official word on whether Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's success will lead to additional content or a potential sequel. However, the positive reception bodes well for future remasters of niche titles. This trend is further evidenced by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
