"Netflix Plans AI-Generated Ads for 2026"

by Mila May 28,2025

Netflix has officially announced its plan to introduce AI-generated advertisements, including intrusive mid-program pause ads, for users subscribed to its ad-supported tier beginning in 2026. According to Media Play News, details regarding the targeting mechanism remain unclear. Will these ads be personalized based on viewing history, or will they adapt dynamically to the content being watched at the moment? At this stage, specifics about the backend functionality and presentation format are scarce. However, one thing is certain—the era of AI-driven ads on Netflix is approaching.

Amy Reinhard, President of Advertising at Netflix, highlighted the company’s vision as a convergence of its core strengths during the recent Upfront event for advertisers in New York City. “We excel either in technology or in entertainment,” she stated. “Our unique advantage lies in combining both.”

Reinhard further emphasized Netflix’s edge over competitors, noting that user engagement begins high and remains robust throughout their platform experience. Interestingly, she pointed out that viewers demonstrate similar levels of attention towards mid-roll ads as they do toward original series and films.

Currently, ad-tier subscribers watch approximately 41 hours of Netflix monthly, translating to roughly three hours of commercials per month. While this figure pertains to traditional ads, the introduction of AI-generated ones in 2026 is expected to amplify the frequency and sophistication of these interruptions.

As of now, Netflix hasn’t set a definitive timeline for rolling out this significant change across its service.
