Oblivion Remastered Lacks Official Mod Support, Despite Thriving Modding Community
Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, much to the delight of fans eagerly awaiting its release. However, the excitement has been tempered by the announcement that the remastered version will not include official mod support. This decision has left many in the community surprised, given Bethesda's longstanding support for modding communities through the provision of official tools like Creation Kits for games such as Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield. The absence of mod support was confirmed on Bethesda’s official support page, with no specific reason provided for this notable omission.
Despite the lack of official support, the modding community remains undeterred. Enthusiasts are already using the original game's Creation Kit to bring mods into the remastered version. Discussions and experiences are being shared across platforms like Reddit, where modders are exploring ways to adapt their work to the new engine, Unreal Engine 5, which powers the remaster.
In another exciting development, fans have begun experimenting with playing Oblivion Remastered in VR. Just three hours after the game's release, users started utilizing UEVR, a mod tool that enables VR compatibility for games. YouTuber LunchAndVR posted a video showcasing early tests of Oblivion Remastered running in VR with motion controls. The gameplay ran smoothly at 70 fps on medium graphics settings, using a setup that included a GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB of RAM. These initial tests suggest that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.
