Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Quick Links

Yukiko's Castle serves as the first significant dungeon in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its brevity (seven floors), it provides a crucial introduction to the game's mechanics and combat system.

While the initial floors present minimal difficulty, later levels introduce the Magical Magus, a formidable random encounter. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.

Magical Magus Weakness & Skills in Persona 4 Golden

Null Strong Weak
Fire Wind Light

The Magical Magus utilizes powerful skills, primarily fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories (found in golden chests throughout Yukiko's Castle) is highly recommended. These accessories also prove beneficial in the final boss battle.

When the Magical Magus begins charging magic, guard on your next turn. It frequently uses Agilao, a potent spell capable of eliminating unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap inflicts significant physical damage (two hits), Agilao poses the greater threat. Strategically, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, leaving the protagonist to exploit the Magus's weakness.

Early-Game Persona with a Light Skill in Persona 4 Golden

Archangel is the optimal early-game Persona with a light skill, possessing Hama (an instant-kill attack) and learning Media (a healing spell) at level 12. This level 11 Persona can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

In Persona 4 Golden, Hama and other light/dark skills are instant-kill moves, targeting enemy weaknesses for guaranteed one-hit kills. This makes the Magical Magus, typically a challenging foe, remarkably easy to defeat. Given Archangel's high level, farming the Magus is viable, provided you have sufficient SP restoration items or are prepared to enter the boss fight with reduced SP.
