Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Orlando Bloom Eager for Return
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has officially confirmed that Disney's highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will feature the return of beloved characters from the franchise.
Since the release of the fifth installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales, in 2017, numerous ideas for a new Pirates film have been proposed. However, the movie's mixed reception and a series of legal challenges faced by Johnny Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, left the series in uncertainty.
Now, plans are finally shaping up for a fresh Pirates of the Caribbean adventure, blending both new faces and familiar favorites—though exactly which original characters will reappear remains unconfirmed.
In a recent interview on the British talk show This Morning, Orlando Bloom expressed his interest in reprising his role as Will Turner, the blacksmith turned charming rogue. Bloom's character sailed into the sunset with Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann in 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
Both Bloom and Knightley made cameo appearances in a post-credits scene of Dead Men Tell No Tales, hinting at a future comeback. However, as time passed, fans grew uncertain if this setup would ever be revisited.
"I can’t reveal anything at this point because I truly don’t know, but the door is definitely open," Bloom said earlier this month. "The team is still figuring out the direction, but I think bringing the original cast back together would be fantastic. There are multiple ideas in discussion, so we’ll see what happens."

Over the years, various concepts for future Pirates films have circulated. Reports indicate Disney has considered multiple directions—whether continuing with classic characters, introducing entirely new ensembles, rebooting the series, or developing spin-off stories while putting the main plot on hold.
A major hurdle has been the status of Johnny Depp. The actor previously stated he did not wish to return as Captain Jack Sparrow after Disney ended its collaboration with him amid legal controversies.
In 2018, Depp lost a libel case against the publisher of The Sun over an article that alleged he was violent toward his ex-wife Amber Heard. Later, in a separate defamation suit against Heard, Depp claimed that her op-ed in The Washington Post led Disney to cut ties with him.
As time has passed and Depp has resumed work on other projects, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has voiced his interest in welcoming Depp back. Last year, a significant Pirates of the Caribbean crossover with Fortnite further fueled speculation, featuring classic characters like Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa as in-game skins.
In a recent conversation with Screen Rant, Bruckheimer confirmed that "some" previous cast members will return for the next film. Although the upcoming installment promises "a new take" on the franchise, it won’t feature an entirely new cast.
When asked whether a new take meant all-new actors, Bruckheimer replied, "Not all. We’ll have some returning… I won’t say who just yet—you’ll have to guess."
Whether Depp is among them remains a mystery. For now, Disney has not made an official statement, and Pirates of the Caribbean 6 still awaits a formal announcement and release date.
