Project Hail Mary Hits Major Release Milestone

Ryan Gosling's highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Project Hail Mary won't premiere until 2026, but the film has already shattered records with its record-breaking trailer performance.

Historic Trailer Milestone Achieved

Director Phil Lord announced this week that the trailer for Project Hail Mary surpassed 400 million views within just seven days of release - becoming the most-watched trailer debut for any original film that isn't a sequel or remake.

Lord commemorated this achievement on social media, writing: "Absolutely incredible! Thank you to all the amazing fans of cinema, literature, and space exploration for making the Project Hail Mary trailer the most viewed non-franchise original movie trailer in history." His post included celebratory artwork featuring Gosling's character.

Comic-Con Surprises Promised

The filmmaker hinted at special reveals coming to San Diego Comic-Con, where he'll appear alongside Gosling, co-director Chris Miller, author Andy Weir, and screenwriter Drew Goddard. While keeping details under wraps, Lord promised exciting surprises for Hall H attendees.

This marks the second adaptation of Weir's work following the enormously successful The Martian starring Matt Damon, which grossed $630 million worldwide. The reception to Project Hail Mary's trailer suggests Amazon MGM Studios may have another interstellar hit on their hands.

The film's stellar cast includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub alongside Gosling. Project Hail Mary is scheduled for theatrical release on March 20, 2026.
