Voltorb Spotlight Hour: Catch and Evolve

by Hannah Feb 11,2025

Get ready, Pokémon GO trainers! January's first week is almost over, and the next Spotlight Hour event is just around the corner – this Tuesday! With numerous events already underway, make sure your Pokéball and Berry supplies are stocked for this exciting opportunity.

Pokémon GO consistently delivers engaging monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the weekly Spotlight Hours, each featuring a specific Pokémon with a chance to catch a Shiny variant. Here's the lowdown on this week's event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

This week's Spotlight Hour, featuring Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, runs from 6 PM to 7 PM Local Time on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Prepare for a double dose of catching and Shiny hunting! Both Pokémon offer significant combat advantages, providing extra damage output when needed.

Given the two Pokémon featured, stock up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. These items boost your chances of catching Shiny variants and facilitating evolution. Also, ensure you have ample storage space; you'll likely be catching many Pokémon and won't want to interrupt your session for transfers.

Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is tradeable and transferable to Pokémon Home. Catching it yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. This is a two-stage evolution; Voltorb evolves into Electrode using 50 Candies. With a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch.

As an Electric-type Pokémon, Voltorb takes increased damage from Ground-type attacks (160% damage) and reduced damage from Electric, Flying, and Steel types (63% damage). The optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack power. A blue Shiny Voltorb awaits discovery.

Hisuian Voltorb, also #100 in the Pokédex, shares Voltorb's family and stats (1141 CP, 111 Defense, 109 Attack), tradeability, and transferability to Pokémon Home. Catching it rewards 3 Candies and 100 Stardust, and it evolves into Hisuian Electrode with 50 Candies. While also Electric-type, its type matchups differ slightly.

Hisuian Voltorb receives 160% damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison types, and 63% damage from Grass, Steel, and Water types. Electric-type attacks inflict 39% damage. Its best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), providing 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather conditions enhance its damage output. Its Shiny form features a black body instead of orange.
