Zelda: Tears of Kingdom Adds Cloud Saves

by Nora Dec 09,2025

Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version will indeed support cloud saves after all.

While we already knew the Nintendo Switch 2 would receive enhanced versions of several Switch titles including Tears of the Kingdom, recent reports from IGN raised concerns that these updates might not support Nintendo's cloud save functionality as expected.

The initial product pages for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition featured warnings stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature." This sparked confusion among fans.

Nintendo has since updated its website with clarification. While references to cloud saves were removed entirely from the Donkey Kong Bananza page, the Tears of the Kingdom listing now specifies: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

Updated Nintendo Switch 2 disclaimer clarifies cloud save functionality

The updated disclaimer provides clarity for Switch 2 users.

This change indicates players can transfer their original Switch saves to Switch 2 devices, though reverse transfers won't be possible (via Eurogamer).

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page now displays the same message, confirming consistent save transfer policies across titles.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders recently launched at the $449.99 price point – with unsurprisingly high demand. For purchasing details, consult IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
