They can only play one card at a time, and after it is beaten, the turn returns to the original attacker. If the player to the left of the defender has no playable cards, the turn passes clockwise to the next player. This allows all players to take turns throwing cards, hence the name "Flip Fool" (Durak podkidnoy) or "Durak Classic."

"Transferable Fool" (Durak Perevodnoy) adds an exciting twist to the game. From the second move onward, the defender can "transfer" a card played against them by playing a card of the same rank but a different suit. This shifts the burden to the next player clockwise, who can also transfer the card to the next player, and so on. This is why it's called "Transferable Fool" (Durak Perevodnoy).
