NetEase is set to roll out a groundbreaking experimental feature in Marvel Rivals designed to boost stability and minimize memory usage. On April 30, Marvel Rivals took to Twitter (X) to announce the forthcoming release of the Switch Shader Compilation Mode, a solution crafted to elevate the gaming experience, particularly for those with lower RAM configurations or FPS concerns.

In addition to the announcement, Marvel Rivals published an insightful blog on their website, providing a comprehensive overview of what players can expect from this experimental feature. The blog acknowledges the community's concerns about performance stutters and crashes due to high memory consumption during gameplay.

According to the blog, "To tackle the issue of memory overload, we're introducing an experimental feature in Season 2: the Switch Shader Compilation Mode. Players can enable this feature via the PC launcher with the Season 2 update." This feature is particularly beneficial for those with 16GB of RAM or less.

Upon activation, the game will see the following improvements:

  • The shader compilation process will occur only when first entering the game after a new game version or graphics driver update.
  • Memory usage will be significantly reduced, mitigating severe FPS drops, frozen visuals, and crashes caused by memory shortages.

However, the developers have highlighted some known issues associated with this feature. For instance, at the start of each match, some materials might render abnormally for a few frames before normalizing. Other potential issues include initial stutters, but these should resolve quickly, allowing for a smooth experience for the rest of the match.
