Bethesda Surprises Fans with Starfield Patch Amid Oblivion Remastered Excitement

by Evelyn Jun 11,2025

While fans are buzzing with anticipation for *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered*, Bethesda has quietly rolled out a surprise update for *Starfield*. The latest patch, now available in the Steam beta, introduces 'Very Low' display settings aimed at boosting performance, expanded support for Creations (mods), and a wide range of fixes targeting quests, vehicles, UI elements, and the *Shattered Space* DLC.

PC players can opt into the beta through Steam and test the changes ahead of a full release. Bethesda has actively encouraged players to share feedback and has published detailed patch notes for review. While this update is primarily focused on optimization and bug fixes, it doesn’t include any major new content or announcements regarding future DLCs—leaving many players still eager for news about what’s next for the spacefaring RPG.

Launched in September 2023 as Bethesda’s first original IP in over two decades, *Starfield* faced mixed reception compared to the studio’s beloved *Elder Scrolls* and *Fallout* series. Its expansion, *Shattered Space*, released in September 2024, continues to hold a “mostly negative” rating on Steam, indicating ongoing player dissatisfaction.

Despite reaching a milestone of 15 million players, some have speculated whether Bethesda might shift focus away from *Starfield* to concentrate on its more established franchises. However, Todd Howard and the team at Bethesda Game Studios have reiterated their commitment to the game. In a recent interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Howard confirmed plans to deliver annual story expansions for *Starfield* for the foreseeable future. This includes at least one additional story-driven DLC following *Shattered Space*, though no official release window has been announced yet.

Rumors about a potential PlayStation 5 release gained traction earlier this year after fans spotted a PlayStation logo attached to a work-in-progress Creation on the official site. Although the item was later removed, the discovery fueled speculation that Bethesda may be preparing a PS5 version of the title, which has so far only been available on PC and Xbox.

What's New in Starfield Update 1.15.214?

  • Performance Enhancements: Introduced 'Very Low' display settings to improve frame rates on lower-end hardware.
  • Creation Support: Added support for bundling Creations, increased upload size limit to 2GB, and enabled custom icon integration.
  • UI & Localization Fixes: Improved large font compatibility, fixed text cutoff in Spanish and Polish, and enhanced localization consistency across quest interfaces.
  • Gameplay Improvements: Adjusted legendary effects, corrected skill progression persistence, and improved vehicle deployment logic.
  • Quest Fixes: Addressed issues in key quests including "In Memoriam," "The Starjacker," and "Worlds Apart."
  • Graphics Optimizations: Expanded supported resolutions and resolved frame drops during extended scanner use.
  • Shattered Space Updates: Fixed visual glitches, adjusted dialogue options, and improved enemy XP tracking within gravity bubbles.

As attention shifts toward the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, *Starfield* fans are hopeful that Microsoft and Bethesda will make a major announcement—possibly revealing the PS5 version, a new expansion, or both. With just weeks to go, all eyes are on Bethesda to show its long-term vision for the game and reassure its dedicated community.
