Kojima's PlayStation Exclusive Physint Is Still Coming, But Right Now It's In The 'Conceptual Stage'
Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has confirmed he’s still developing the PlayStation-exclusive action espionage project Physint.
Though details about the mysterious game remain scarce, Kojima told Indiewire that he’s currently “at the conceptual stage.”
When asked what he’s working on now, Kojima said: “Well, I’m analyzing data from Death Stranding 2 players around the world—what weapons they’re using, the paths they’re taking, all of that. I’m also noticing small bugs here and there, so I’m figuring out what to fix and where.
“I’m also beginning work with the team on OD, since it’s a new project, and I’m handling Physint entirely on my own because it’s still in the conceptual phase. That’s what I’m doing right now. Plus, I have interviews every day, promotional photo shoots, and all that—so frankly, I don’t feel like I’ve even finished Death Stranding 2.”
What Kojima means by “conceptual stage” isn’t clear yet, but it implies Physint is still far from active development. The comment also suggests we’re likely to see more of his Xbox project, OD, before Physint emerges.
On the topic of OD—yesterday (August 7), we reported OD is still in development, even as Xbox has canceled several other internal and external projects.
This comes from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who confirmed OD was 'still in development' after speaking with a Microsoft spokesperson. His report followed coverage of Xbox halting development on Avalanche Studios’ Contraband, a partnership first announced four years ago.
Kojima also weighed in on players skipping cutscenes. Regarding the original Death Stranding game, he said, “Cutscenes are part of the game,” which is why he shortened them in the sequel to encourage players to watch them instead of skipping.
And finally, although he’s the visionary behind the landmark Metal Gear series, Kojima has said he will not be playing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, when it releases later this month.
