Developer Confirms Performance Issues in Wuchang

by Sophia Feb 10,2026

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers reached a peak of over 114,000 concurrent players on Steam, marking one of the most successful launches on the platform for a non-FromSoftware Soulslike title to date.

This achievement is notable given the current 'Mostly Negative' user review rating on Steam. Players have cited problems such as "extremely poor performance," a protagonist described as "completely lifeless," and "clunky" combat mechanics. As of now, only about 22% of the more than 9,300 reviews are positive.

Developer Leenzee has since released an official statement addressing these concerns, acknowledging that "these issues should never have occurred," and expressing that "we deeply regret the inconvenience and frustration some players are currently experiencing."

"We are confident in the game's performance within our recommended specifications, but optimization efforts are actively underway," the development team stated. "We aim to release a patch as soon as possible." Players encountering ongoing problems are advised to either submit a support ticket to publisher 505 Games or adjust their in-game settings.

Performance is not the only matter the developer is tackling.

"We are aware of some regional pricing discrepancies. We are working with Steam to correct these," the team noted, before also addressing an error with pre-order rewards.

"A bug in the reward distribution for the Standard and Deluxe editions prevented players from receiving the correct items. This will be fixed in the upcoming patch," Leenzee explained. "As a gesture of our gratitude, we will provide all players who purchase the game on Steam with a complimentary digital copy of the original soundtrack. We will also process refunds for anyone who has already purchased the soundtrack separately on Steam."

Furthermore, all players who purchase the Deluxe Edition moving forward will receive "a brand-new exclusive costume," though they are asked to be patient as "implementing this may take some time."

"We are fully committed to investigating and resolving these issues as quickly as possible. Our team is treating these problems with the highest priority, working diligently to fix everything and ensure players have the best possible experience," the statement concluded.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark, chaotic final years of the Ming Dynasty. Players assume the role of a mysterious warrior suffering from a grotesque feather-borne disease, unraveling hidden secrets and combating supernatural foes in an ancient empire on the brink of collapse. Our review found it to be 'Great,' scoring it an 8/10. We wrote: "Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another excellent addition to the growing library of soulslikes, boasting superb combat, inventive level design, a deep skill tree, and challenging bosses. Some steep difficulty fluctuations and a reliance on occasional cheap ambushes are points to watch for."

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched earlier today, July 24, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Microsoft has also added it to Game Pass as a day-one release for subscribers to the Ultimate tier.
