3 & 16 Beads

A small collection of two strategy-based board games. Both of these games are very popular in rural Bangladesh.

3 Beads (তিন গুটি): This game is played between two players and is quite similar to Tic-Tac-Toe. Instead of starting with an empty board, each player begins with three pieces. Players can drag one of their beads and place it on a valid position. The first player to align all three of their beads horizontally, vertically, or diagonally (excluding initial positions) wins the game.

16 Beads (ষোল গুটি): This game is also played between two players and resembles Checkers. Each player starts with 16 beads. A player can move one of their beads one connected step at a time to a valid position, and can capture an opponent’s bead by jumping over it and landing in a valid spot. If a player makes a capture and can immediately capture another bead, they may continue their turn. The player who captures all 16 of their opponent’s beads wins.
