30-40 Hour Main Story Experience

During Kyoto's showcase event, Creative Director Jonathan Dumont revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows delivers 30-40 hours of core narrative gameplay alongside over 80 hours of optional content. The development team is actively evaluating player demand for New Game+ mode - a feature notably absent in Valhalla that left many fans wanting.

Dumont highlighted Shadows' innovations including dynamic seasonal environments, refined combat systems, and an enhanced hideout system. The narrative ties into future franchise developments through a completely new Animus storyline.

Bringing Japan to Life in Assassin's Creed

The development team described creating a Japanese-set Assassin's Creed as their passion project. Dumont explained that contemporary technology finally allows proper realization of feudal Japan's natural beauty and architectural complexity.

While drawing inspiration from classic samurai cinema like Kurosawa films and 13 Assassins, the team acknowledges discussions around historical accuracy regarding Yasuke's inclusion. Dumont stressed their commitment to honoring Japanese culture while delivering compelling fiction.

Customizable Hideout Revealed

Hidden Sanctuary in Izumi Settsu

Players will establish their headquarters in Izumi Settsu's secret valley, evolving this sanctuary throughout their journey. Systems Associate Director Dany described the Hideout as Ubisoft's most ambitious player home to date.

"We're giving players unprecedented creative control," Dany explained. Customization options expand organically through gameplay progression, letting each Hideout reflect individual playstyles.

Dynamic Ally Interactions

The Hideout becomes a living space where allies form relationships through scripted encounters. Writing teams across four continents collaborated to create organic interactions based on facility placement.

"These moments make the Hideout feel alive," Dany noted. Character relationships evolve naturally, transforming the base into the emotional core of your covert operations.

Assassin's Creed Shadows launches March 20, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
