Application Description

Learn to read by focusing on the sounds of letters rather than their names.

Learning to read begins with understanding the sounds that letters make. The second key participant in a child’s learning journey is the adult who guides them, practicing together and demonstrating how to form each sound. By observing the adult’s mouth movements, the child can better understand how to shape their lips and tongue to produce the correct pronunciation.

To support this process, we’ve selected a group of simple, easy-to-learn letters from the alphabet. These are used to build familiar words—like animal names and common everyday terms. In this program, the focus is not on the name of the letter, but on its sound.

At first, adults should practice together with the child, remembering that reading is a gradual process. Once the child becomes more confident, they can explore the application independently, while the adult continues to return periodically for shared sessions. After some time, adults can move to the “Discover the Word” section and try these exercises:

1- Ask the child to pronounce the individual sounds of the letters in the word TREE.
2- After practicing, ask them, “What did you say?”
3- Never tell the child the word they’ve just sounded out.

Repeat this process, encouraging the child to blend the sounds more quickly each time. As the pauses between sounds shorten, the word will naturally emerge. Resist the temptation to reveal the word. Then, one day, when asked “What did you say?”, the child will proudly respond, “I said TREE!” That’s the moment to celebrate—reading has begun.

Soon, you’ll notice the child showing excitement to read every word they encounter. This is the perfect time to gradually introduce more complex letter-sound relationships—such as the letter C, which can have a soft sound (as in sky) or a hard sound (as in house), depending on the surrounding letters. Other letters previously not included can now be introduced as well. Always remember to honor each child’s unique pace and learning journey.
