REPO Duck Bucket Added in First Update
Duck Bucket added in the first major update for REPO to help players deal with the terrifying duck mechanic.

The developers of REPO have revealed details about their first major update, including the introduction of a "duck bucket" to protect players from one of the game’s most feared mechanics. Read on to learn more about what’s coming next and how Lethal Company's creator is weighing in on the game.

REPO’s First Update Details

Introducing the Duck Bucket

REPO Duck Bucket Gameplay
The new duck bucket allows players to safely contain the duck and avoid unexpected transformations.

In REPO, an online co-op horror game supporting up to six players, you must carefully extract and retrieve items while navigating a world filled with tension and fear. One of the game’s standout threats is The Apex Predator—a seemingly harmless yellow duck that transforms into a terrifying monster when touched or damaged, attacking players for 10 seconds before returning to its innocent form.

To combat this unpredictable threat, Semiwork Studios announced during a March 15 YouTube video that the first major update will introduce a “duck bucket.” This new tool allows players to trap the duck, preventing it from following them around and eliminating the risk of accidental activation. It also helps keep teammates safe from triggering the duck’s monstrous transformation. Alongside this feature, players can look forward to additional facial expressions and various quality-of-life improvements.

New Map: “The Museum” and Public Lobby Enhancements

New map "The Museum" challenges players with parkour-based gameplay and improved extraction zones.

Semiwork Studios also shared plans to release a new map titled “The Museum,” designed to test players’ parkour skills in unique ways. In addition, extraction zones will now display visible borders, making it easier for players to determine whether their loot is within range for successful retrieval.

The team is also working on implementing public lobbies based on community feedback. According to the developers, they are considering a matchmaking system that supports both public and private hosting options, complete with a kick function. However, integrating a kick button involves complex server-side coding—an area relatively new to the development team—so this feature may arrive later than expected.

Lethal Company Creator Weighs In on REPO

Since its February release, REPO has drawn comparisons to Lethal Company, another popular co-op horror title known for its tense cooperative gameplay and eerie environments. On March 15, Zeekerss, the creator of Lethal Company, shared his thoughts on Twitter (X), offering constructive criticism and praise for REPO’s potential.

He tweeted:
“REPO is fun. At first I thought I didn't like it since I felt so slow (and voice chat range is too small!) But everyone in the group working together to move a grand piano through a cramped old mansion without scraping it—that is like the most funny objective for a horror game.”

Zeekerss followed up in the comments section, suggesting areas for improvement:
“I'll probably post more thoughts on Patreon, but I think #1. Voice chat range needs increased, and the muffling is too much. #2. The levels with vast open space don't suit the game's design very well (similarly to Phasmophobia); it shines most in the cramped mansion layout.”

Additionally, he responded to player concerns regarding enemy stealth mechanics:
“Yeah, there also needs to be an in-game way to learn about how enemies work, but I'm sure they're planning that.”

Final Thoughts on REPO

REPO Steam Player Count Comparison
REPO reaches over 230,000 concurrent players, nearing Lethal Company's all-time peak.

REPO continues to gain traction as one of the most talked-about co-op horror games on PC. Currently sitting as the second best-selling game on Steam behind Counter-Strike 2, it has attracted over 230,645 concurrent players, nearly matching Lethal Company’s record high of 240,817.

With promising updates on the horizon—including the duck bucket, new maps, and improved multiplayer features—REPO looks set to carve out its own identity in the ever-growing horror genre. Stay tuned for more updates by checking our latest article on the game.
