Stellar Blade Sequel to Boost Narrative After 3M Sales

by Nicholas Oct 31,2025

With Stellar Blade surpassing 3 million global sales, director Hyung-tae Kim confirmed its sequel will feature a "more substantial" narrative.

In a This Is Game interview (via Genki), Kim explained the team originally crafted deeper lore for Eve's journey, but extensive cinematic costs forced significant cuts to meet deadlines. This explains lingering mysteries — including the rationale behind Eve's frequent wardrobe changes — throughout the game's worldbuilding.

Though Shift Up contemplated adding cutscenes post-launch for clarity, Kim worried this might conflict with players' existing interpretations. Fans can consequently anticipate a "far more fleshed-out storyline" in the sequel.

The follow-up likely remains distant, as Shift Up currently prioritizes Stellar Blade's PC port. Kim tentatively targets a 2027 release but emphasized the team will "push diligently" to meet that timeframe.

Despite launching June 11, Stellar Blade's PC version became Sony's most successful single-player Steam debut, hitting 192,000+ concurrent players. By comparison, Ghost of Tsushima peaked at 77,154, God of War at 73,529, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered at 66,436. Only multiplayer title Helldivers 2 surpasses these numbers among Sony's Steam releases.

IGN's review scored Stellar Blade 7/10, praising its core action while noting weaknesses: "While excelling in combat mechanics, Stellar Blade stumbles with forgettable characters, an underdeveloped plot, and some cumbersome RPG elements that hinder its potential among genre elites."

The PC edition introduces Nvidia DLSS 4/AMD FSR 3 upscaling, uncapped framerates, Japanese/Chinese voiceovers, ultrawide support, enhanced textures, and DualSense haptic integration.
